The Danger of Displacing the Center

In his book, The Cross and Christian Ministry, D.A. Carson says,

"I fear that the cross, without ever being disowned, is constantly in danger of being dismissed from the central place it must enjoy... Whenever the periphery is in danger of displacing the center, we are not far removed from idolatry." (p. 29)

That is such a helpful insight, for I recognize a tendency in my own heart to displace the centrality of the cross... of the gospel. It is at that point that idolatry reigns (even if subtly) and sin abounds. And so I thank God that where my sin abounds, his grace abounds even more.
