This is the first time I checked your blog in awhile (time got away from me!), and it dropped my jaw that this blog entry you wrote 5 days ago is exactly what I asked you about TODAY. I have no doubt in my mind that God is moving in this. SAME MESSAGE over and over: detour to Samaria. The need is great...the harvest is waiting. Let us be His Hands and Feet!

I really like Keller's comment. I think another point is that ministering in a university/college atmosphere keeps the church from unintentionally becoming functionally secondary separatists. It keeps us on our toes and it keeps us honest, and hopefully keeps humbly driving us back to Scripture.

I really appreciate your comments on moralism. Many of your comments at the breakfast and this post really resonate with me. In my own personal experience, when people learn of my faith, their initial reaction is to try not to do 101 things that might offend me because, as a result of so much moralism being put out from within Christian circles, they sincerely believe that is the what the gospel is about.

What strikes me about his comment is not only the ending, but how he starts: "Make people feel like they need an answer to a question." My gut reaction is to think that, when we use that as a starting point, we end up overly-domesticating Scripture and God because it really limits and even governs everything we would say and do as we preach. In other words, that principle would then dictate our preaching and not Scripture itself.

Ironically, I was just reading an interview with Timothy George of Beeson Divinity School, and his comment really resonated with me: "Preachers of the Gospel are heralds of another world, charged to deliver a message they did not invent, a message of great urgency addressed to every single person in the world." Whether it be evangelism or formal preaching behind the pulpit, I think his comment really captures the mindset we should have in preaching.

Gospel Transformation says, those who are strong and right are weak and wrong. While those who are weak and wrong are strong and right. Something like that.

The gospel teaches us that we are weak and wrong--even as Christians. This is a new paradigm that reshapes belief...so many applications to this truth.

Absolutely love your blog!! Points me to Jesus!! As a graduate of UGA I'm very excited to see a gospel-centered church planted in north Georgia.

Found your blog through twitter post by Jonathan Macintosh.

I was the associate pastor at The Orchard in Tupelo for 3 plus years and am now the associate at Christ Untied Methodist in Memphis. Just down the street from 2nd on Poplar.

I've been listening to Keller and working through Gospel Transformation again and again for the past few years. It's core material when I disciple others.
In fact, I'll be teaching it to a group of disciple-makers at our church this fall along with Robbyn Abedi, from Tupelo. Check out www.christcollegememphis.org He introduced me to Keller...who was probably introduced to Keller by Jonathan, who was introduced to Keller by you.

I heard you were at Perimeter. Did you know David Grant in student ministries? He did some consulting with us a year ago.

In a book a I recently read the author expressed the same idea this way: we need to move from "working on my sin so God will accept me" to "standing with Jesus and looking at my sin so He can work on it"(or something like that). What lie of the Devil makes it SO HARD to believe that we will be accepted by Jesus no matter what and that ONLY Jesus can make us completely acceptable to the Father?
